Vanessa Bateau EVC
Vanessa Bateau is an 18 year old Freshman at Brooklyn College. She produced her first documentary, Scrolli, as a participant at HBO Young Filmmakers Lab. Scrolli has since been featured in the Urban Visionaries Film Festival as well as in Listen Up! and on Uth TV. In October 2006, Vanessa Bateau was flown out to San Diego by ListenUp! for the San Diego Women’s Film Festival. Vanessa’s film, Scrolii, was part of “Our Take” the youth-made program at the festival. There were three screenings of the program, each followed by a panel discussion with the filmmakers and audience. On the final day of youth-made screenings, Vanessa was awarded the Youth Judges Award. Her film was selected out of 23 films by a panel of 50 youth judges. In October 2005, Vanessa had the honor of becoming a member of the Youth Organizers Television (YO-TV) crew, which produced Still Standing, a documentary on Hurricane Katrina survivors both in New York and in New Orleans. Vanessa is currently a part of Reel Works Teen Filmmaker’s Master Class, where she is working on her fourth film about her family’s Haitian background and culture.
