Listen Up! is a youth media network that connects young video producers and their allies to resources, support, and projects in order to develop the field and achieve an authentic youth voice in the mass media.

Listen Up! provides critical organizational, technical and financial support for schools and community based organizations dedicated to supporting young producers around the world.  Listen Up! is a project of Learning Matters, Inc. - a documentary production company that explores issues on youth and learning for public television. LMI's award-winning filmmakers produce documentaries for the NewsHour with Jim Lehrer and Frontline. Listen Up!'s youth-produced documentaries have been distributed on PBS, IFC, online forums and international film festivals worldwide.

Our Focuses are:

• To provide support through information, media tools, and services to young producers and their allies both inside and outside the network.
• To work with young video producers to develop, implement, and fund projects, raise production quality and tell excellent stories.
• To cultivate meaningful partnerships with like-minded organizations for develop and promote the field of youth media.
• To secure a broadcast venue for youth produced video.

Listen Up! enables youth to gain entry into the world of electronic media.  We train youth producers directly and we work with local organizations that serve youth. Our network provides financial, technical and organizational support to thousands of young people. Our website, listenup.org, is the most comprehensive source of youth media available, and, for many of our members, listenup.org is their only Internet presence.

Listen Up! is an inclusive network, reaching out to poor and working class youth, kids of color, lesbian and gay youth, refugees, native youth and young women- people who are often the subjects of offensive or simplistic images of themselves in the mass media and who are unlikely to have access to high tech training in media.Listen Up! provides authentic avenues for youth participation and influence. We create dialogues, activities and processes that bring youth and adults together as partners to create a more just and equitable society. Media, one of the most powerful communication resources available, is our tool. We challenge youth who are in danger of withdrawing to contribute and to make social connections. Listen Up! recognizes these youth as resources who possess unique insights and perspectives and who are simply too valuable to be ignored.
