Reel Ideas: Tips from Industry Professionals Who've Made the Cut
Industry experts share their expertise and tips for success in the rapidly evolving filmmaking industry. You'll hear from industry experts such as Reid Rosefelt, Scott Andersen, and Kevin Baillie, Visual Effects/CG Supervisor at The Orphanage - post-production professionals who’ve worked closely with leading directors such as Robert Rodriguez and Quentin Tarantino. You’ll walk away with the knowledge needed to get the greatest exposure for your film even if you don't land a major distribution deal; you’ll glean applicable tips from those who have named films on their resumes; and learn how to get the most from today’s technologies while staying within your budget.
“Remote Technologies to Maximize your Post Production Budget”
With the advances in desktop post production, there is no shortage of efficient talent and skills to make your production look the best, but often the talent lives away from your production base or even in another country. Adobe experts will illustrate a remote approval workflow of an HD short produced in Northern Ireland with effects and grading done in San Francisco.

“Visual Effects Compositing for Superman Returns”
Kevin Baillie, (Visual Effects/CG Supervisor at The Orphanage, a leading Visual Effects and Film Production Company based in Los Angeles and San Francisco) and Mike Kanfer (Academy Award winning Visual Effects Supervisor) will illustrate how their team created hundres of visual effects composites for Superman Returns. They will review how the shots are previsualized, filmed and then composited to create seamless, photorealistic images for one of this year’s biggest visual effects blockbusters.

“Digital Workflows on Superman Returns”
Scott E. Anderson and Mike Kanfer (Academy Award winning Visual Effects Supervisors) will explain the concept of Digital Sandbox Hub, which served as the core for all digital workflow on Superman Returns. Beginning with cinematography done with the all digital Panavision Genesis cameras and ending with the Digital Intermediate, Scott and Mike will review how the production engaged an all digital worklfow to create one of this summer’s biggest VFX blockbusters.

“Hollywood Workflows on an Indie Budget: High def & 2k Workflows”
Filmmaker Jacob Rosenberg and David Taylor, CEO of CineForm, will discuss how HD (high-def) and digital intermediate (DI) workflows can result in huge cost savings-without sacrificing quality or color accuracy. For Indie filmmakers who want the richness of film without the cost, this session will demonstrate how to create a color-accurate film print for the big screen or for distribution on the Internet without having to undergo a more cumbersom, expensive film workflow. You will also learn how to use the latest HDV cameras and 24p workflow with the new Sony V1 camera to create a quality film.

Production techniques used in recent film and commerical projects will be discussed, including HDV acquisition, scanning, codecs, visual effects methodology, and digital-intermediate considerations.

He will also discuss post-production and visual effects workflows on projects like Martin Scorsese’s The Departed and Rolling Stones Documentary and Robert DeNiro’s "The Good Shepherd.
